Our Story: The Legacy of Leslie Sawhny Centre
Founded on November 3, 1973, in the serene setting of Devlali, Nashik, the Leslie Sawhny Centre has emerged as a premium training, educational and skill training hub. Our roots are deeply embedded in a legacy shaped by distinguished leaders; our first Chairman, Mr. Nani Palkhivala, and our first Vice Chairman, Mr. Minoo Masani and Mr. Minoo Shroff set the foundation. Over the years, eminent personalities such as Mr. JRD Tata, Mrs. Rhoda Sawhny, Mr. Ratan Tata, Mr. M R Pai, Mr. S Mulgaokar, and General Kumaramangalam have been our mentors.
The Leslie Sawhny Programmes was crafted with the intent to cultivate skilled leadership, promote responsible citizenship, and encourage selfless public service among citizens and youth. Today, the Centre stands as a beacon of learning and empowerment, recognized and respected by corporations, NGOs, educational bodies, and social institutions alike.
The Centre gets its name from the late Colonel Leslie Sawhny. Col. Sawhny served in the Indian Army from 1936 to 1948, distinguishing himself during the Burma campaign and earning a Mention in Dispatches. After retiring from military service, he played significant roles in various Tata group companies and championed the ideals of a free and liberal society. His leadership qualities and humanitarian efforts left an indelible mark.
